What Makes the Flyers Tick?

22 Jan

The Flyers have been red hot in the month of January with a record of 8-1 through the first 9 games. Up next they have the last place Devils at the Wells Fargo Center. What has been the key to their success?… Depth.

The Flyers have 8 total players with more then 10 goals tied for the league lead with the Detroit Red Wings. Then you compare that to the Pittsburgh Penguins who have 3 and the Vancouver Canucks who have 4. Also the flyers have a 9th player in Andreas Nodl who is just shy of double digits.

Many players have stepped their game up this year but a few in particular are Ville Leino and Andrej Meszaros. Leino has accumulated 11 goals and 25 assists on the year with a plus/minus rating of +23 good enough for 3rd place in the league lead. He is amazing with the puck and always has an eye out for his linemates Briere and Scott Hartnell. Meszaros on the other hand has provided solid defense with the lead league in plus/minus rating at +29. He has also has tallied 6 points including 2 goals in his last 3 games.

Lastly the goaltending situation betweeen BOB and Boucher is easy. Lately it has not mattered who started because the Flyers always play great defense for them. They are rated in the top 10 in Goals against per game and also the best team when they play 5 on 5. So as long as they could stay out of penalty trouble this team can outplay anyone.

Flyers return to Chicago for the 1st time tommorrow at 12:30 pm for the NBC game of the week! Should be fun..
